Practices
The Catholic Football League's intent regarding pre-season practices is to ensure that players are in
sufficient shape to undergo the physical nature of football, to minimize injury, and reasonably to follow
the guidelines of the Iowa High School Athletic Association, while applying those guidelines to grade-
school football. The following CFL guidelines regarding practices might require further discussion
and clarification by the CFL board in specific instances.
- No practices generally shall be held on Fridays (Dowling home games) and Sundays.
- For sixth- through eighth-grade tackle programs, five practices may be held the first week, and then
four practices thereafter.
- For the fifth-grade tackle program, five practices may be held the first week, and then three
practices thereafter.
- For the third-fourth flag programs, five practices may be held the first week, and then three practices
thereafter.
- Practices for all programs shall last no longer than 2-1/2 hours per practice.
- A total of five "conditioning" practices must be completed before full-contact tackling is allowed.
- School and religious education take priority over any practice.
- No teams shall practice on the Dowling varsity practice field or main east field.
